A Very Good Excuse for Chocolate 🍫

September13th International Chocolate Day

Hi Friend!

September 13th is International Chocolate Day, and I cannot think of a much better reason to bring out the good chocolate.

Dark, milk, melted, baked into cake, turned into truffles, or broken into big pieces of chocolate bark... I am not especially picky about the form it takes. πŸ˜„

So instead of trying to choose just one chocolate recipe for today, I pulled together a few favorites for whatever kind of chocolate mood you happen to be in.

If you want sweet, salty, and crunchy: Caramel Chocolate Bark

This one is dangerously easy to snack on.

Dark and milk chocolate are topped with caramel popcorn, salty pretzel pieces, and a little flaky sea salt. You get creamy chocolate, crunch, sweetness, and salt all in the same bite.

And since there is no baking involved, most of the work is really just waiting for the chocolate to set.

If you want to make your own chocolates: Dark Chocolate Truffles

These are for the days when you want your chocolate to feel just a little more special.

Rich dark chocolate, a touch of cinnamon, and a white chocolate coating turn them into lovely little homemade treats. They look impressive, but you do not need to be a professional chocolatier to make them.

If you have leftover egg whites: 6-Egg White Chocolate Cake

I always like a recipe that gives leftovers a purpose, and this one puts six egg whites to very good use.

The result is a light, fluffy chocolate cake that feels quite different from the dense, rich chocolate cakes we usually think of.

So if there happen to be egg whites waiting in your fridge, I think you know what to do with them.

If you want the chocolate to be the star: Flourless Chocolate Cake

No flour means there is very little standing between you and the chocolate here.

Dark chocolate gives this cake its intense flavor, while grated almonds add texture. You can serve it simply with powdered sugar or add whipped cream and berries if you want to dress it up a little.

It also comes together in under an hour, which is always useful information where chocolate cake is concerned.

And for the serious chocolate craving: Double Chocolate Bundt Cake

This one does not hold back.

Dark chocolate goes into the cake itself, along with milk chocolate for an extra creamy chocolate note. The result is rich, soft, and very much a cake for people who believe one kind of chocolate simply is not enough.

Which, on International Chocolate Day, seems completely reasonable.

Want to make something with chocolate yourself?

If chocolate bark and truffles have you tempted to start melting chocolate at home, you can browse my Chocolate Candy Recipes for even more ideas.

And if melting, tempering, and dipping still feel a little intimidating, my guide to the essential chocolate-making tools is a good place to start.

As for me, I think International Chocolate Day calls for something homemade and a really good cup of coffee alongside it.

Now the only question is which chocolate recipe gets made first. 🍫

Happy International Chocolate Day!
